The labor and delivery process of birth is transformative. So often birth is centered around the person who is carrying and birthing the baby. But there is something important about the role dads play in the birth space. For many years, they were asked to remain outside of the birth room. They were invited in only after a new baby had been birthed, examined, and swaddled. It’s incredible to consider how far we’ve come in the last 100, even the last 50 years.
Now dads often serve as active participants. Supporting. Holding. And even catching or delivering their own babies. Dads are present from the most significant moments to the smallest, more intimate moments when he affirms and empowers his partner during labor.
Here at BBY we believe that by making birth visible, we can reduce fear and encourage all families to embrace their birth stories with anticipation, knowledge, and joy. We hope these images of dads at births help show you what’s possible.
